Description

Join Prevent Child Abuse Iowa for a day dedicated to strengthening families in Iowa! We’ve partnered with state experts to offer five regional trainings on strategies that can improve your work with families and increase community commitment for building safe, nurturing environments for kids. These meetings also include networking among professional partners and an evening forum to engage leaders in discussions about issues that matter for Iowa’s children and families.

Registration is from 8:30-9 a.m., with training from 9-4:00 p.m. Participants have the option to pay $15.00 to order lunch for the day of the event. Place orders during registration by selecting the desired number of lunches under "Order Your Lunch (Optional)".

Anyone is welcome to attend part or all of the meeting; participation is strongly encouraged for Iowa Child Abuse Prevention Program (ICAPP) and Community-Based Child Abuse Prevention Program (CBCAP) grantees. This training is free.


Meeting Agenda

9 AM - 10:30 AM Business -The Program Managers from PCA Iowa and IDHS will provide information on what to expect with the merger of the ICAPP and CBCAP programs. Also being reviewed are MOUs that will need to be in place to identify eligible recipients of prevention funding.

10:30 AM - 11:30 AM: Cultural Competency - Discussion of equity policy and practice changes that lead to the reduction of disparities and disproportionality in Iowa’s child abuse prevention network and reflects the recommendations of The Cultural Equity Alliance: A Statewide Child Welfare System Steering Committee published Ma, 2015.

11:30 AM - 1:30 PM: Lunch & Focus groups - The focus groups will solicit input from community stakeholders to inform the strategic plan that will shape the next ICAPP/CBCAP service procurement. Representatives from councils, service providers, CPPC sites, families/parents, as well as any other interested parties are encouraged to attend.

1:30 PM - 2:30 PM Data in the Real World - This session will offer the first module of a FRIENDS National Resource Center comprehensive training which covers planning, implementation and learning from evaluation. Along with the introduction to the material, it will provide a brief review of the additional training modules available to communities.

2:30 PM - 3:30 PM: ACEs and Connections Matter - Updates on trauma informed prevention work in Iowa and how you can get involved.

3:30 PM - 4 PM Sexual Abuse Prevention Updates - Training schedule, literature review and discussion of the direction of sexual abuse prevention programming.
